AvMed Physicians
AvMed is committed to quality health care. We have a broad network of physicians who also work hard to keep you healthy. AvMed contracts with physicians who are in private practice and see AvMed members within certain time frames, depending upon the member's condition. They also agree to certain standards of care for our members in regards to wait times and accessibility. To view AvMed's standards, choose a link below:
AvMed considers Board Certification a significant credential in evaluating our physicians. Our physicians complete advanced training in an approved hospital residency and/or fellowship program. Additional requirements, as established by each specialty board, must be met for a physician to become Board Certified. Our physicians are identified within this directory with a filled diamond for "Board Certified".
AvMed offers health plans that allow for fully coordinated health care within the AvMed Network with minimal authorization requirements. These plans are known as "Classic" and "Open Access". AvMed members on the Classic plan must choose an AvMed Primary Care Physician (PCP) from this directory. AvMed Open Access members are not required to select a PCP. AvMed values the unique role of the patient-physician relationship. Your PCP plays an integral role in coordinating your care with specialists and other healthcare providers, as well as handling authorization requirements when appropriate. No matter which plan you have, we strongly encourage you to request that your specialist send your test results and treatment information to your PCP. That way, you have one physician who maintains your medical history.
For after-hours service, contact your PCP or go to an Urgent Care Center. AvMed’s contracted Urgent Care Centers can handle minor illnesses and injuries when your PCP is not available. These centers are more convenient and less expensive than emergency rooms. Also, they help keep emergency rooms ready for your serious emergencies. Urgent Care Centers are listed in this directory. It is a good idea to locate the ones near you and post that information along with you doctor’s information in a handy place.
Primary Care Physicians are identified in this directory by these specialties. The first time you call a doctor’s office, be sure to ask what age groups the doctor sees.
